The town of St Jean d'Angély is just 15 minutes from Chagnon. It has a rich historic centre, a number of bars and restaurants plus a great market on Wednesdays and Saturdays

This Gallo-Roman city rich in art and history offers a lot of different landscapes, monuments and gastronomic pleasures. 

Chateaux

Chateau-de-la-Rochefoucauld

The region has a number of fine chateaux. Possibly the greatest is just the other side of Angoulême, Chateau de Rochefoucauld.

Just 30 minutes from Chagnon is the town of Cognac, where you can tour many of the producers and learn all about Cognac! 

 La Rochelle

La Rochelle is about an hour from Chagnon. It is a historic and vibrant city with much to offer for a full day out. 

Royan, Beaches and Zoo

St Palais sur mer beach

Set at the mouth of the Gironde estuary,  '1950's" Royan is an hour away, and boasts 34 beaches. Most of them have a restaurant or two. The nearby Zoo Palmeyre is worth a visit if you like animals, whilst the Brutalist cathedral in town is also worth a visit. You can also catch a ferry to the Medoc where famous wine appelations await.
